melophobia comes from Greece. He likes to experiment with long noise and drone sounds intermingled with field recordings and acoustic sounds. melophobia is heavily influenced by contemporary artists such as Merzbow and early ’90s shoegaze scene. He is active with his ultra-limited releases of his 3″/5″ CDr label ‘illicit-tapes’. He cherishes the piles of his priceless jap noise C-xx tapes and obscure vinyls.
BroodingSideOfMadness is interested in phonemes, graph theory, realism and any dystopian ambiance. He seeks for the generative element in his tracks. He is the founder of Etched Traumas netlabel.

The notion of folk culture has definitely been transformed through the course of the centuries. More particularly, tradition and its authenticity and spontaneity in the context of orality seem somehow to have been mutilated and reconstructed, as soon as globalization and multiculturalism became one of the dominant discourses during the 21st century. Folk songs haven’t been an exclusion in this particular case, as revivalism and folklorism have emerged as a devastating force in the production of folk music. In “Amorgos Soundscape” by Antoni Robert, a paradox occurs: One could say that these folk songs are seen through the eyes of a foreign visitor and the recording could be seen as an exotic sound diary of a trip on a Greek Island. On the other hand, Antoni Robert’s recordings of the Theologitis’ family of musicians reveal an impressive approach on the concept of orality and its proud survival in the Greek folk culture.
Antoni Robert talks about Amorgos Soundscape:
“This is my fourth soundscape, but it is of a totally different nature with respect to the previous ones. Initially, I just wanted to proceed in a similar way that I did for the St Petersburg one, but once on the island, I realized that this idea was not adequate. St Petersbourg is a noisy place, while Amorgos it is not. Generally speaking, the island soundtrack is the wind and the sea. And at once the title “Wind on Water” came to my mind, but unfortunately, that title was already used by Fripp & Eno. But it was adequate indeed. I had the chance to listen to some goats also; the island is the hometown for a huge quantity of goats. So I was wondering about those simple things when it happened. It was dinner time, and we went to the small town of Tholaria looking for a taverna, and we found the Panorama Tavern. We started dining and at a given moment the musicians appeared and started to play great music from the islands. I recorded two complete sets, in two unforgettable nights. More than four hours of live performance. And I was said they do it every night. Once at home, while listening to that music I understood that it would have been inadequate to edit bits of it in order to build something more personal. The main feeling was a deep respect for the work of those musicians, and so the best thing to do was to choose two or three songs and use them as they were performed, in spite of the recording problems and the noise of the taverna clients. The only things I’ve added are the intro and the links between songs because wind and sea had to be there anyway. The results are a real soundscape of a dinner at Panorama Tavern, with the music played by three real artists. Stamatis Theologitis plays the violin and sings, Giannis Theologitis plays Laouto and sings, and the great Nikos Theologitis, 90 years old at the moment of the recording, and the owner of the tavern sings, claps hands, dances and explains jokes whenever he wants. I don’t know if I will reach that age. Probably not. But if I ever I’m 90 years old I want to be like Nikos. A happy man full of energy and passion. So this soundscape is a respectful tribute to The Theologitis Trio. It is their record. The rock band is The Cave Children, from Athens, included because our stay there coincided with a 4 days rock festival, and it was a part of the soundtrack too.”

solo bass ruminations
We are so happy to release another Lezet’s work on Etched Traumas.
Lezet is Igor Jovanovic and comes from Požega, Serbia. Lezet is an one-man experimental music project in 2005 and he has released more than 45 albums. “Someone’s comment about the sound of Lezet (Igor Jovanović) was ‘like Zorn without saxophone’…And indeed, Lezet’s work could remind the results of “the game theory”, which John Zorn exercised on his debut “Locus Solus”, for example…The fact that Lezet doesn’t use only live instruments will probably disconnect it from the avant garde free jazz scene, but I suppose the coming under some specific style wasn’t the intent in this case anyway. It’s about free experiments with sound captures in search for the surprises. And it can’t be pretentious as such…” (extract taken from the “Black Syrup” zine #2 (Serbia, 2007)).

Pineal Neuron Trauma – The Story Of…
This is the first and maybe the last Pineal Neuron Trauma release. The project is inactive for a long time and its future is uncertain. So this would be the right time to have a release with all the recorded stuff till now.
The story began when Tim Van der Schraelen (Antwerp, Belgium) and Mattia P. (Italy) started Pineal Neuron Trauma and recorded their first 3 tracks (tracks 01-03) in November 2013 and a fourth one (track 04 : Digital Skullfuck) in April 2014. Both they had their own solo music projects. Mattia liked to make mostly noise music as “Human Virus Transmission” while Tim liked to make experimental/dark ambient music using mostly soundscapes and rhythm beats, and also making videos for his and other’s people music using various aliases such as Obu Tarn, (Alex) Amerantropoid(es), etc. Tim has a hearing problem and he uses hearing aid in order to make music.
In April 2014 Tim also asked Theofil Tsiolakakis (Thessaloniki, Greece) who he already had his own project “Mean Flow” (experimental, ambient, noise, etc) using mostly keyboards to collaborate and they recorded a S/T song (track 23) as “Drowned In The Sewers” almost simultaneously with PNT 4th track. They started to make some more few music (which finally aborted by Tim and used by Theofil to Mean Flow music) while Tim asked Theofil to join PNT. So as a trio project this time. PNT recorded 13 tracks (tracks 05-17) in almost 1 year period, between May 2014 to April 2015. Then there were some disagreements with Mattia, and Tim decided to stop the collaboration and PNT were inactive again for some months.
In September 2015, Tim asked Theofil to continue PNT and write new tracks and also brought another member to project, Joseph (Athens, Greece) who has his solo music project too, called “BroodingSideOfMadness“. Joseph also has his own music label called “Etched Traumas“.. So with this line-up they recorded 2 tracks in September 2015 (tracks 18 : I Walk The Same Dark Place) & 19 : Brave New World) and another one (track 20 : Fake Spirituality Is Moral Rape) in February 2016. Joseph then, for some personal reasons stopped recording with PNT although he was never officially left the project.
Tim and Theofil recorded a track (track 24 : Four Legs Good, Two Legs Bad) in March 2016 and Tim decided to have it as the second track by Drowned In The Sewers. After that, there was another period not so active. Tim And Theofil started another 2 tracks in June 2016. The one track (track 21 : “He Who Talks To Machines”) got the final recording and the video clip in August 2016. The second track (The Pineal Neuron Trauma Continues) named as this, because of Tim’s will to continue PNT, left without a video clip.
This last track (The Pineal Neuron Trauma Continues) and another track named “Chaos” that recorded in October 2016, mixed together by Tim as one final track (track 22 : The Burning Past) and a new final video clip was made by Tim in March 2017. Last time Tim’s hearing ability got worse and this is another main reason PNT’s future is so uncertain.
You can watch all video clips of Pineal Neuron Trauma’s songs made by Tim, in this playlist link :

We are so happy to present ‘Les silences de Perséphone‘ the 6th work of Philippe Neau on Etched Traumas net label.
Philippe Neau comes from France and started his sound-making projects by cobbling together music samples, field recordings and the results of his fiddling with audio software. Sounds complete his works and add an atmosphere within and around his paintings, subsequent installations and videos. He looks for dense, heavy, noisy, squeaky, tense and quiet atmospheres, which have to be both dark and bright at the same time. In his previous projects he used the artistic name Nobodisoundz.

Gomon is the product of cold city sounds, which is mixed with guitar riffs and chthonic myths. The music of this project is a search for the atmosphere in the world of dreams for a breath of fresh air. The first album Kenoma comes from the faceless emptiness of human nature. We praise the biological body, its voice, its movements, which is decorated by plastic and metal. We bathe in post-rock among the stars, listen to the folk-echoes of our ancestors and descend into the depths of the subconscious with the help of ambient and drone elements.

Synesthetic experience intended to be synergic: a little list of tracks dissecting the painting of the artist ??? from all sides.
15 sound splashes imparting extra dimensions, up to volume and smell, to the two-dimensional painting. According to the authors, things usually hidden behind a flat surface of a canvas should be opened by means of acoustical images.
The tracks themselves (it seems essential to call them “movements”, by old academic tradition) are laconic, homogeneous, moderately noisy, demonstrating, in essence, the fact: all our organs of sense are the same.

Etched Traumas is happy to welcome Jimmy Watt from Chile. Watt’s work methodology focuses mainly on the capture, extraction, editing and storage of audio samples from different sources.
He transforms, relentlessly, curtails, beheads and sews sound works from different backgrounds and authors, providing the glue that comes from analog-digital instruments and audio processors and resulting in a “sound narration” split into parts.
His sound works do not drop below 20 minutes for just such narrative, where there is a development from defined introduction to epilogue. He detests the “digital finishing” of sound with a computer. For that reason dirty, gnawing and saturated sounds prevail (but without spoiling the record), thus achieving kind of a sound archeology. His creative concepts pursues mysticism, the occult, time, religions, the process that leads to contemplation, the silence, the pause, the suspension, death and upstarts.

………..somewhere…insect heart…minuscule feathers unfurl against a remembered pulse…the world between flight and anchor caught in a silvery skein of dew…translucent days…a distant figure swims through the heat haze…
the lit fuse of summer sparks, crackles…time and space converge inward…imagination malleable…seconds and minutes shiver…wind-blown wheat…dreams lost and found in the field…
…touched by leaves…unburdened and adrift…wood smoke curls into tears…someone… veiled manifestation vaguely glimpsed…
…connected to the ineffable, pulled through the mundane…new worlds weaved from old mythologies…there, a tolling bell embossed on a cloud… in a sky as deep as an ocean…strolling toward a vanishing point of our own making…somewhere
